How to reach
By Road:- Hazaribagh is connected by
well-laid network of roads to Ranchi, Dhanbad, Gaya, Patna, Daltongunj and
Calcutta via
Asansol-Govindapur-Barhi. The Hazaribagh
National Park is situated
about 19 km from the Hazaribagh town.
By Rail:- The nearest railway station is
located at Koderma, which is about 59 km away, or alternately one can reach the
park from the Hazaribagh Road
railway station on the Howrah-Delhi Grand Chord line.
By Air:- The nearest airport to the
Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Ranchi, about 91 km away.
Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary - It
is located in the low hilly terrain of Bihar and spread over 184 square
kilometers in thick tropical forests and grass meadows.Hazaribagh Wildlife
Sanctuary is counted among the most popular and significant sanctuaries in
India. Located on NH 33. Deep thick forest cover and a morum road running
through the wilderness provides an excellent opportunity to observe both flora
and fauna. This sanctuary is the part of the Chotanagpur plateau and densely
forested with grass meadows, undulating countryside, steep hills, dense
tropical forests and deep.
The Sanctuary is known for
inhabiting deers, tigers, nilgaaya, Sambhar and a variety of birds. Hazaribagh
is rich in flora, and fauna that include leopards, Jungle cats, sambars,
nilgais, Barking deer, chitals, wild boars, wolves, etc. Numerous observation
towers in the sanctuary makes it easier to take a closer look at the wildlife.
The jungles in Hazaribagh are teeming with a variety of trees like the sal, asan,
dhow, salai, kend, and bamboo, to name just a handful from a long list. Like
Koderma, Hazaribagh too is full of picturesque spots and offers leisure
activities like boating at Salparni. In the heart of Hazaribagh is the Kunhary
Hill, now referred to as the Canary Hill. Don’t expect to see canaries but
maybe you could settle for the similar looking Golden Orioles.
The main Sanctuary road ends at
Rajderva before bifurcating to the Bahimar Gate of the Sanctuary. Rajderva has
a small lake with Boating facility plus a forest rest house for tourists to
stay. The Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary has the largest number of sambars than
any other wildlife sanctuary of comparable size. Some other animals in the
sanctuary are nilgai, deer, chital, leopard, tiger, panther, sloth bear, wild
boar, wild cat and bear. The population of the tigers is very less. According
to 1991 Census, there were 14 tigers in the park. There are 10 watchtowers to
view the wildlife in this sanctuary.
The best season to visit the
Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary is from February to April and October to March.
The climate in this region is tropical with hot summers and cold winters.
During the summers, temperature is about 41 degree Celsius and in winters, the
temperature remains at 7 degree Celsius.
