Aizwal, the state capital of
Mizoram is famous for its natural beauty, clean and fresh air. Located at an
altitude of 400ft. above sea level, the Tropic of Cancer runs through the heart
of this city.
Bara Bazar is the main shopping
centre of Aizawl in Dawrpui Veng locality. The steep Zion Street is lined with
stalls selling garments .The main bazar is where the people are best seen in
their traditional costumes selling produce from the farms as well as imports
from China brought through Myanmar border area.The Millenium Center in the same
locality is a popular shopping Mall.
Perched on the central ridge in the
middle part of the state, the 112 year old city stands out like a huge citadel.
Surrounded by deep green valley of River Tuirial on the east, Tlawng River
on the west and the beautiful Durtlang Hills lie on the north makes Aizawl is
an ideal hill-resort. Literally means the land of highlanders, most of Aizawl
embraced Christianity and one can see churches in every neighbourhood.
Mizoram State
Museum is located in the
centre of the town at Zarkawt. This museum gives a good insight into Mizo
traditions, culture and history. Reiek Tourist Resort is a beautiful place at
an elevation of 1548 metres, located 45 km south of Aizawl with a traditional
Mizo Village.is a tourist spot 12 km from Aizawl, Mizoram.
Geographically blessed with natural
beauty with exotic flora and fauna, Aizawl is famous for its handicrafts.
Although, the largest city in Mizoram, Aizwal is still very remote but the
influence of the modern world can be seen very clearly. The Assam Rifles
Centre, the administrative buildings and Raj Bhavan are situated here.
Hmuifang is about 50 km from Aizawl
with an elevation of 1619 metres, the mountain is still covered with virgin
forests reserved since the Mizo Chief's time Berawtlang Tourist Complex
situated 7 km from Aizawl is a recreational centre that hosts cultural
activities.
Mizoram State
Museum :-
It is at McDonald's hill, in the
centre of Aizawl town. This small museum contains the historical relics,
ancient costumes, a collection of weapons, musical instruments and Mizo
traditional implements. It also has a gallery of displaying the tribal textiles
of Mizoram. Open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5 pm. Saturday 9am to 1 pm. ,

Luangmual Handicrafts centre :-
The ceremonial bamboo hat 'Khumbeu'
is made at Luangmual Handicrafts centre, using waterproof wild' Hnahthial'
leaves. Situated in Luangmual village 7 km away from the weaving centre, it
provides it's visitors to see Mizo's handicrafts items.
Bara Bazar :-
It is the main shopping centre in
Aizawl. One can get garments, cosmetics, vegetables, Handicrafts etc from here.
From the the Weaving Centre above the Bata Shoe Shop, one can see the women at
their looms weaving traditional shawls.
Durtlang Hills :-
Situated on the northern side of
Aizawl, the hill offers a fine view of Aizawl township.
Mini Zoological Garden
:-
Situated on a hill called Bethlehem
Vengthlang, it is a home to species of animals and birds which are mostly found
in the hilly regions of Mizoram. The main attraction is the endangered Sun
Bear.
Sairang :-
It is a beautiful village situated
about 19 km west of Aizawl on National Highway 54. Situated on the banks of Tlawng River,
the place draws a large number of tourists.
Berawtlang Tourist Complex :-
Around seven km from Aizawl is
Berawtlang Tourist Complex famous for fun picnics.
There are facilities of
accommodation in tourist cottages and various Cultural /Heritage Fairs and
Festivals are also held here.
Rungdil (lake of partridge) Lake :-
Located about 150 km from Aizawl,
it is a manmade lake. Sprawls over an area of about 3 hectares, it comprises
two lakes, separated by a narrow stretch of land. Surrounded by lush green
deciduous forests the lake was the home to a large number of partridges.
Boating facility is available at Rungdil.
Bung and Paikhai :-
Paikhai is an ideal picnic spot, it
is situated around 16 km north of Aizawl. Bung Picnic Spot (15km) is adjacent
to this place.
