A Rich History and Many Tourist Attractions
Bihar has a rich culture and history. The earliest university in the world was established in Bihar. The name Bihar is a derivative from Vihara, which means ‘monastery’. Mahabodhi Temple, a Buddhist shrine and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also situated in Bihar. Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Patna, is one of the longest bridge in the world. True to its name and its rich cultural heritage, the state houses various monasteries and it is famous for monuments belonging to various religions.

Bihar is believed to be one of the most ancient places inhabited by people. Human habitat can be traced 3000 years before in the places which are now part of Bihar. Bihar tourism offers an unique amalgamation of ancient civilization, religion, history and culture that is identifiable with India. The languages spoken in these areas are Maithili, Bhojpuri, Magadhi and Angika. All these languages together form the ‘Bihari' language which is believed to have originated from the ancient language “Magadhi Prakrit” which was spoken by Lord Buddha and the people of Magadha region.

Planetarium Museum and Zoos
Patna Museum is the state museum of Bihar. It was built by the British during the British Raj in the year 1917 to house the historical artefacts found in the vicinity of Patna.
Science museums - Patna Planetarium is one of the largest planetariums in Asia. Srikrishna Science Centre - This institution forms a unit of the National Council of Science Museums, an autonoums body under the ministry of Culture. It is located at south-western corner of the Gandhi Maidan. Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan is classified as one of the 16 large zoos in the country and is also known as Sanjay Gandhi Botanical and Zoological Garden, Patna or Patna Zoo.
Connectivity and Access in Bihar
Bihar state acts as a gateway for people going towards the eastern part of the country and western part towards Delhi. The state is well connected by train, road and flights.
By air
Patna has its own airport known as Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport or Airport Patna. It is a national airport and it is connected to all major cities of India via daily flights. Gaya Airport is the only international airport in Bihar and Jharkhand which 96 km from Patna. It is an international airport
By rail
Bihar is strategically located in the main line of the East Central Railway and therefore connected with important cities of India and most cities within Bihar.
By road
The cities of Bihar are well connected by public transport including both private and government transport. The roadways also connects to Nepal. To boost the state roadways, the state government have introduced Mercedes Benz luxury buses. The Mercedes luxury buses, 92 in number, ply between 17 routes including Patna, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Ranchi and Jamshedpur.

Chhath is known as the capital festival of Bihar. Apart from Chhath, other festivals are celebrated with equal zeal and excitement. The various tourism festival like Sonepur Fair, Rajgir Mahotsav, Patna Film Festival,Chhath. These festivals and fairs are celebrated with much pomp and show by the people of the state.
