The Group of Islands
The Group of islands covering a total area of 8,073 sq kilometers, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a union territory of the republic of India. Despite of the horrid reputation during the colonial period, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands this day are one of the most sought after tourist destination of India. Initially inhabited by multiple groups of indigenous tribes, the island was later used as a penal colony during the British occupation of India.

How to Reach
By Air : Five weekly flights between Calcutta and Port Blair and four flights between Chennai and Vishakhapattnam connect the islands to the mainland.
By Sea : Regular passenger ship services are available to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam and back. There are three to four sailings every month from Kolkata and Chennai to Port Blair and vice-versa. There is one sailing from Vishakhapatnam in a month. The voyage takes about 50 to 60 hours and the ship normally berths at Port Blair for about two to four days.
Climate : The summer temperatures range between 20?C and 38?C. And the winter between 20?C and 25?C.
Location : About 13 km long and 4.5 km wide, the island of Diu is situated off the southern coast of Gujarat, separated by a narrow channel.
See the Convoy of Dolphins
This is a beautiful place which provides an ideal vacation. Long Island is one of the favorite spots of sightseeing of Andaman. Tourists gather at this site to see the convoy of dolphins found in this area. The sandy beach at Lalaji bay also seems to be a major site at the Long Islands.
Permits required visit the Andaman
Permits are required for foreign nationals. For foreign nationals arriving by air, these are granted upon arrival at Port Blair. Indian tourists do not require a permit to visit the Andaman islands but if they wish to visit any tribal areas they need a special permit from the Deputy Commissioner, Port Blair.
